The Fallen Angel

"As she fell, her black wings broke through the wood and shingles, painfully making her shout out as she hit hard onto the stone floor that had been carved centuries before with designs.  She blinked slowly, noting her black wings, beginning to alight with flame, and she realized in horror, she was dying....

No, she thought... it cannot be.... I was one of the Angels.... how....

But she had strayed from her path, giving into the fury within her, giving into temptation and wrath, things that turned her once white feathers black as coal.  And now, she was nearing her end of her existence...

"I'm sorry...." her voice trembled from her quivering lip as a tear slipped from her cheek to land on her ebony hair as the flames grew around her, creeping closer with each burning feather.  She looked up at the stained glass window, the moonlight shining down onto her.  ... "forgive me...."

A single white feather drifted down from the hole in the ceiling where she had descended, and landed softly in her hand, as gentle as a fathers kiss on his newborn's skin.  She looked around for the last time and closed her eyes.

The next morning, all that was on the floor of the church was the white feather, pure as snow."
